Lord Vishnu, the all-glorious and omnipresent, reclines over Anantha in Palazhi in his full form. Ananthamurti is actually an integral part of Him who is infinite. It is inappropriate to see Anantha just as a bed of Vishnu with human eyes. His Holy form is fully realised only as that of Ananthashayi (one who reclines over Anantha). That is why holy texts including Puranas proclaim that Lord Vishnu is Anantha. Lord Vishnu, who has taken various incarnations on earth in various forms for the protection of the world, resides on earth in the form of Ananta as the benefactor of Kali Yuga. His glory is demonstrated in a way that He is worshipped in various forms in different lands. Legends say that every god used to appear before the devotees in ancient times. But in the Kaliyuga, man can only realize the godly appearance in Nagadevata. He is the God who is visible in the Kali Yuga. As Vishnu is Devadhideva (God of Gods), Ananthamurti is Nagadhiraja (King of Serpant-gods).
Vettikottu Nagaraja with the blissful presence of Trimurti Chaitanya is like Kalpavriksha (a mythical wish-fulfilling tree) to those who depend on him
Meppali Illam’s original seat (moolasthanam), thevaram, and vault (Nilavara) are situated on the western side of the temple. Bhadrakali, Durga, Mahavishnu, Mahadeva, Yakshi, Chathan, and Murthi are worshipped here as Thevara murthis. Poojas are held here every morning. The exquisite Meppalil vault can also be seen with this. Here, once a year, Noorum pal is held on the Sunday following the Ayilyam Day of the month of Thulam or on the day of Dwadashi.
Devotees who come to the temple for worship pay darshan to Moolasthanam and Nilavara, and get rid of Sarppa Doshams.
The Agama Sarpa Kavu is a special grove that inhabits the sacred groves moved from other places by invocation. It is located outside the wall on the southern side of the temple pond. Here, once a year on a Sunday following the Ayilyam day of the month of Thulam, Nurum Palum is held.
